Why is SEO Important?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is important because it helps websites rank higher in search engines like Google, thereby increasing visibility and attracting more organic traffic. With the majority of internet users using search engines to find what they’re looking for, having a strong SEO strategy is crucial for any business or website looking to establish a strong online presence. Back in the day, people used to rely on phone books to find information, but now search engines have replaced them just like how SEO has replaced traditional advertising methods. In fact, you could say SEO is the new phone book – except you don’t have to worry about anyone throwing it at your head!

Our Proven SEO Process

Vox Digital has constructed an industry-leading SEO strategy that helps businesses rank higher in search results.

With our unique approach to SEO, we are able to produce results at a much higher scale compared to traditional campaigns; resulting is a higher return on investment for each of our clients.

Read below to see our 8-step process for success:

Phase 1: SEO Client Onboarding

Our SEO onboarding process helps familiarize our agency with your business needs. We go through everything from branding to content creation and ensure everyone is on the same page before proceeding.

This process generally includes:

✅ Client questionnaire and onboarding form

✅ A 60-minute meeting to go over your business goals and objectives

✅ Request for Account Access: (Google Analytics, Facebook, Instagram, Google Business, WordPress, Shopify, etc.)

✅ Request for Brand Assets (If Applicable): If you have any logo files or brand guidelines, we’re going to want copies of those.

💡Use this step in the process to voice your suggestions or concerns over the project. 🚀

Phase 2: Website Audit

Next up, we’re going to perform a full-blown analysis of your current website and business.

Here are some of the things we will be looking at and doing:

  • Analyzing the structure of your website
  • Assessing the quality and relevance of your content (because nobody likes a boring website)
  • Sneaking a peek at your competitors’ websites
  • Website Speed (Did you know that with each second of load time, conversion rates drop 4.42%)
  • Backlink Analysis
  • Technical SEO Audit

Phase 3: Technical SEO (Onsite Optimization)

Before we start any link building or content creation (off-page SEO), we focus all efforts on improving the technical SEO also known as “On-Page SEO.” This process includes optimizing elements such as page speed, mobile responsiveness, header tags, meta descriptions, and internal linking structure to ensure a seamless user experience and improve search engine visibility. By making sure the technical foundation of the website is strong, it sets the stage for effective link-building and content-marketing strategies. With a solid technical SEO foundation in place, search engines can easily crawl, index, and rank the website, leading to higher organic traffic and better search engine rankings.

The difficulty and cost of your SEO campaign can increase drastically if your website has a heavy amount of Javascript on the page, or if your website is built on a Javascript framework like React. Javascript SEO is the process of making sure search engines are able to crawl, index, and render javascript pages correctly and view the content on the page. Sometimes, Javascript speed improvements like lazy loading can have an effect on search engines being able to view that content.

A sitemap.xml is a file usually located at example.com/sitemap.xml that contains a list of the URLs you want Google and Bing to crawl.

  • Helps search engines discover pages on a website
  • Facilitates faster indexing of website pages
  • Enables better organization of website content
  • Supports submission of specific URLs for crawling
  • Improves website visibility & ranking potential.

Meta tags are HTML tags that provide information about a web page to search engines and website visitors. They are placed in the head section of a web page’s HTML code and include meta descriptions and meta keywords. Meta descriptions provide a brief summary of a web page’s content and are often displayed in search engine results. Meta keywords are not as commonly used and have limited influence on search engine rankings.

Here’s an example of a meta description tag (This tag provides a description of the webpage to search engines):

<meta name=”description” content=”Here’s where you write a concise and informative summary of the content of your page.”>

Schema data is data that is added to a website to provide more information for search engines.

For example, you can include review schema on your website to show the user-generated reviews for each page or product.

Image alt tags help users that have vision impairments and use screenreaders to understand visual content on your webpage. These tags also tell search engines what the image is about.

For example, if you have a picture of the sunset on a beach, your alt text would be something like:

alt=”Beach Sunset” or alt=”Sunset on the beach at disk”

All in all, it would be like this:

<img src="beach-sunset.jpg" alt="Sunset on the beach at dusk">

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another. It is used to tell search engines and other internet systems that a page has moved permanently to a new location.

These server redirects are important for SEO because they preserve link juice/link equity. Link equity, also known as PageRank, is a measure of the value and authoritativeness of a web page. 301 redirects preserve link equity and pass it to the new URL, ensuring that any links to the old URL still provide value to the new page.

In 2015, Google rolled out a major update that prioritizes websites that are built for mobile devices. Specifically, they said, “We’re boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results.”

So simply put, if your website doesn’t look and work well on mobile devices, you won’t rank.

Since 2020, Google also uses something called “mobile-first indexing” which basically means that when they crawl your website, they crawl the mobile version of the content and they use that for indexing and ranking. A responsive website ensures that the same content is accessible and optimized for both desktop and mobile devices.

The history of responsive web design certainly is an interesting one! When crafting your SEO campaign; don’t forget about the importance of a mobile-friendly site.

Google provides a mobile-friendly test that you can use to make sure you’re following all guidelines.

Phase 4: Keyword Research

Keyword research is a crucial step in the success of any SEO campaign. This is why we prioritize this phase of the process in our strategy. Our agency understands the importance of identifying the right keywords to target and our team of SEO professionals use advanced tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, and Google Keyword Planner to uncover the keywords that your target audience is searching for and then we go ahead and optimize your website and content to rank for those keywords. We also use these tools to find search queries that have a lot of potential, but may not be exactly your main keyword.

For example, for a law firm in Calgary, we might conduct keyword research to identify terms such as “Calgary personal injury lawyer,” “employment law Calgary,” or “Calgary divorce lawyer.” By targeting these keywords, we can ensure that the law firm’s website appears at the top of search engine results pages (SERPs) when potential clients are searching for legal services in Calgary.

Phase 5: Link Building

Link building is the process of acquiring backlinks, or links from other websites, to a target website in order to improve its search engine visibility and ranking. It is important to SEO because search engines use backlinks as a factor in determining a website’s relevance and authority, and higher-quality backlinks from reputable sources can positively impact a website’s ranking. A Calgary SEO expert can help with link building by finding opportunities to acquire high-quality backlinks from reputable sources, improving the website’s credibility, and increasing its chances of ranking higher in search results, attracting more organic traffic.

Phase 6: Content Creation

One important thing to remember is that Google’s main goal is to show the most relevant result when sure makes a search. You want to become a thought leader in your industry and the only way to do this is with quality content. Although SEO content creation has traditionally mainly focused on blog posts, times are changing and video has quickly become king. Having a 360-degree approach to content creation with video at the top is the #1 strategy.

Phase 7: Reporting / Analytics

Using tools like Google Analytics, Semrush, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, and Looker Studio we generate monthly reports where you’ll be able to get both a quick glance at where we’re at or dive deeper if you want. Monthly SEO reports include metrics like:

  • Traffic: Unique visitors, organic traffic, and sources.
  • Organic Impressions
  • Clicks
  • CTR % (Click Through Rate)
  • Rankings: Keyword positions and changes.
  • Backlinks: Total count and quality score (Domain Rating).
  • Conversions: Leads, sales, and goal completions.
  • Keyword performance: Traffic, rankings, and conversion data

What is Local SEO?

Local SEO is the process of optimizing a website’s content to rank in a local area. For example, a Calgary dentist or law firm would want to rank when users perform searches like “Calgary Dentist” and “Calgary Law Firm” – This would be achieved through local SEO.

Local SEO helps customers in your service area find your company before your competition. Service based-businesses are a major example of companies that utilize local SEO tactics.
